I am writing to all of you about the upcoming election and all the excitement and controversies surrounding it.

There seems to be some voter registration issues happening in some of the swing states. Many newly registered voters may find out that their registrations were purged from the system.
Early voting may be wise just in case. There are also ways to check to make sure you are still registered. I found this Site that allows RI residents to verify that they are still registered. I am sure you can do a search online and find your state's equivalent. Be sure to encourage anyone you know in one of the swing states to confirm that they are still registered.

I am sure you heard that Colin Powel endorsed Obama on Meet the Press. It was very impressive. He spelled out in detail how he came to his decision. What is all this controversy about ACORN? Apparently, they turned in their own voter registration cards that were bogus. Some on the Right (including McCain) think this is the greatest voter fraud in the history of our Country. There is a big difference between voter fraud and voter registration fraud.
A very small number of these cards had fake names like Mickey Mouse. Since Mickey Mouse is highly unlikely to show up at the polls, this is just another fake outrage. See the link below for the Brave New Films video (5.5 min) explaining what is really going on at ACORN.

Let's explore the now famous "Joe the Plumber", and the whole "socialist spread the wealth around" charge against Obama. First of all that $250,000 income (according to some experts) has to be adjusted gross income not total income. Even if you do reach that level, you can choose to re-invest some of that profit (especially if you are a small business) thus reducing your income and what you would pay in taxes.
Most small business depend on consumers that make much less than $250,000. If these consumers have more available income (from Obama's middle class tax cuts) to spend on services provided by these small businesses, then they stand to do much better which will more than make up for their minor tax increase.
All Obama is going to do is return the tax rate to pre-Bush tax cuts. Ironically McCain voted against these tax cuts when they were first proposed. See the 1 min clip on MTP with Tim Russet calling out McCain on this contradiction.

The whole socialist charge is hypocritical, since McCain himself just supported the recent bailout. On Meet the Press this past Sunday McCain was asked if he really thought Warren Buffet and all Obama's financial advisers would be pushing a socialist agenda.

The latest talking point from the McCain/Palin campaign is the horrors of a Democratic majority in the House and Senate. Well up until 2006 there was a Republican majority, and they were united behind anything Bush wanted to do, including the war and all of his spending bills. Since 2006 nothing much has been getting done in congress because of the gridlock. Bush would veto anything that might actually make a change and their wasn't enough of a majority to make important bills pass.

The last issue I want to mention is the Bill Ayers fake controversy. If Obama is guilty of paling around with terrorists, then so is everyone on that board (mostly Republicans) and anyone else high up at the university where Ayers teaches. I am very confident that Obama is going to win this election simply because it is time for the pendulum to swing the other way. It is called karmic balancing. The Right has pushed their agenda hard for the last 8 years and it is time for all that to change. You can see things are lining up for a change not only with the next president, but also with major changes with the House and Senate.
